What do you do as electrical engineer?

My job as electrical engineer consists of making electrical drawings in EPLAN or SEE Electrical, the design program requested by the French automotive market. These drawings are the basis for the electrical assembly, cabinets and cabling of the machines, but also for the machine documentation for the customer (maintenance, replacements, repairs ...).

We also prepare parts lists and the IO list in accordance with the customer specifications. Even if it is the same type of machine, we customise each time according to the customer requirements, such as customer-specific drawing standards and types of materials used. When making a study, we always apply the machine guidelines. To make the appropriate selection of safety components, we use the calculation program SISTEMA. The calculation indicates whether the component is suitable to ensure the safe operation of the machine.

Finally, and of course, we follow the production process closely. We help to solve problems and errors and can inspect our design in real life.

Can you tell a little more about a project you have worked on and are proud of?

One project that impressed me was the first ‘wheel-and-tyre’ machine for Ford South Africa. I have completed a training in robotics at FANUC and have drawn the full electrical diagram as well. The following wheel-and-tyre projects were also fun challenges, because of their size and diversity. Designing such a project from scratch and watching it evolve, was definitely satisfying.

You have been working at BEP Europe for quite some time. What has stuck with you the most from your first months/years at BEP Europe?

After my first job at a family company, I was mainly looking for a job that matched the electrical engineering studies I had done more and I wanted the stability of a larger company. That is what I found at BEP Europe, my second job.

I learned a lot in the beginning, but I have the feeling that I am always learning here. I was especially impressed by the learning process and patience of the mentors at BEP Europe.

I also like to add that the human resource policy of our large company has provided more security, which feels comfortable in a permanent job.

There is not one fixed way to handle things. There is a lot of room for personal input.

The best thing about my job is when I can see the results of my designs in real life after they have been finished by the engineering department.
